Questions and answers

Searching the directory

Find help lists published organizations and their services. It opens in Organizations mode; switch to Services to see individual programs. The two modes count different things, so their totals differ.

Search by need or keyword, then narrow with Filters (area, language, accessibility, cost, availability). Both modes offer Grid, List and Map. Listings aren't all reviewed or verified, and openings aren't guaranteed — always confirm details with the organization.

Using Guided Help

Guided Help asks a few questions and suggests services that may fit. Your answers stay on the page and are not saved to an account.

Suggestions are not referrals and don't guarantee eligibility.

Saving, remembering, sharing and printing

Save adds a service to your saved list, up to 20 services. The list is lost when you refresh or close the page unless you tick “Remember my saved list on this browser.”

Remembering stores only service IDs on this device — there is no account sync, and others using this browser can see the list. Switching Remember off keeps your current-session list; if removal fails, follow the warning and retry removing it. Clear all empties the list.

Share creates a link you can preview and copy; anyone with the link sees the chosen public services — no private answers — and nothing is saved automatically for the recipient. Print shows a preview first, then prints only when you choose.

Listings are re-checked each time, so services that are no longer public are shown as unavailable.

Compare services puts 2 or 3 of your currently public saved services side by side — who each serves, cost, availability, hours, area, locations, languages, accessibility, documents and how to get help. Details are checked fresh when you open or refresh it. Your choices stay on the page only: nothing is saved, shared or sent, removing a service from the comparison keeps it saved, and the comparison is not a ranking, recommendation or eligibility check.

Preparing an inquiry draft

Some services let you prepare a short message on the page. You review it and use “Copy my draft” to paste it into your own email or notes.

This is a draft only — nothing is submitted or sent to the provider, and it is not kept after you leave the page.

Preparing for a service

When a service lists documents, “Prepare for this service” lets you tick the items you have ready and review what you have marked or not yet marked alongside listed application steps.

Marks stay only on that page — they are not saved or sent, and they clear when you close the checklist, refresh or leave. This is different from an inquiry draft, and it is not an application or an eligibility check.

From “Review my preparation”, “Prepare to print” re-checks the current public listing (your marks are not sent) and shows a print preview only if the details still match. Only “Print plan” opens your browser’s print window, where you may be able to choose Save as PDF. Cancelling printing or going back keeps your marks; if the listing changed or can’t be checked, nothing is printed and you can refresh or try again. The plan is a preparation aid, not an application, referral, reservation, eligibility decision or guarantee.

Get Help and Tell us your story

Get Help is a short private request; Tell us your story is the fuller intake. Each keeps its own draft in this browser, so take care on a shared device. You review your answers before choosing to submit — nothing is sent until then, and it goes only to approved HopeMatch intake staff, never automatically to an organization.

Chat with Hope does not submit either form. A service inquiry draft is different: it is kept only while the page is open and never stored.

Reporting a listing error

Use Report a problem to flag wrong or outdated details, closures, or to suggest an organization or service.

Reports are reviewed before anything changes, and you won't always receive a reply.

Browsing Find help by need

Find help starts with categories. Pick one or tap a popular topic. “Search categories” narrows the cards as you type (for example, “rent” shows Housing); the main search box searches only when you press Search. Category counts follow the current mode — organizations or services — and don't mean anyone has been vetted or that a service has openings.

In results you can change category, open Filters, and remove any filter from the chips above the list. Simple shows a short card; Detailed shows more notes. Grid, List and Map change only the view. If nothing matches, you'll see one-change suggestions with exact counts. “Back to categories” returns to the start. Availability older than about six months is shown as not confirmed — ask the organization.

Saving a search on this device

Choose “Save search”, give it a short name, and confirm. Only the search words, category and filters are saved — never results or contact details — and only in this browser. Anyone using this browser may see it, so don't save searches you'd want to keep private.

Saved searches appear under “My searches”, where you can run or delete them. They are not sent to HopeMatch or anyone else and nothing alerts you about new results. This is separate from Saved resources.
